Artist Bio
Aslı Çelikel (b. 1988) is a visual artist and film director based in Istanbul. She earned her BA in Tourism from Akdeniz University in 2010 and later graduated from the Department of Photography at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Marmara University, in 2014.
As a child, she had trouble understanding written texts. To make sense of what others seemed to grasp easily, she created her own visual alphabet using pictures, shapes, and symbols. This became her way into the visual world, a place where meaning didn’t have to be explained, just felt. Today, she pays close attention to small details in everyday life, turning them into stories or letting them quietly slip into existing ones.
Her work has been exhibited at Contemporary Istanbul BLOOM (2024); Mamut Art Project, Istanbul (2022); Unexpected, online exhibition (2020); İzole Project, online exhibition (2020); FotoIstanbul (2017); Artist (2014); and the Pera Museum, Istanbul (2014), among others.
In addition to her artistic practice, she continues her career as a director. Alongside commercial projects, she has directed several music videos and is currently represented as a film director by HOKUS. Also she continues to give lectures and workshops in the universities, Akbank Sanat and other art spaces.
Aslı Çelikel is a member of RFYP (Platform for Advertising Film Directors), the Cinema Television Union (Sinema Televizyon Sendikası), and is also affiliated with PLATFORM by GAPO.
